The National Association Of Social Workers Conference
Molly Zimmermann and Simone Calbi, founding members and veterans of KHK hospital visits – among so many other events - had the extraordinary opportunity to attend the National Association of Social Workers Conference in Atlantic City to represent Kids Helping Kids. They set up a KHK booth and presented to Social Workers, counselors, teachers etc explaining all about who Kids Helping Kids is and what we can do for their clients. The response was tremendous and the girls were able to make connections with professionals from agencies that are certain to work with us in the future. The importance of helping social workers, child life specialists, discharge personnel etc., understand how important Kids Helping Kids can be to a child or teen who is moving back into a life that is completely different than the one he or she knew, is critical. Molly and Simone were able to present our mission of being there when funds and insurance aren’t, to provide the mobility equipment to get kids back into the world of their peers. More than one comment was overheard about them, alluding to how impressive our two presenters were, “ restoring people’s faith in the youth of America.”
Community Awareness
Kids Helping Kids has had many successful fundraisers that were affiliated with local communities. This type of event helps raise the public’s awareness of the work that we do for the kids who can’t help themselves. Think about taking advantage of the things going on in your own community and see if there is a connection you can make. Is there a Community Fair coming up? Or a Voter Registration Drive or Election Day? Is there a Sidewalk Sale or a Founder's Day Celebration? Or a local sporting event? Contact the people running the event, introduce them to Kids Helping Kids and ask them if you can participate in one of the following ways:
a) See if you can run a concession stand and take a percentage of the profits. Have a Kids Helping Kids sign, explain who you are, and what you're doing. While you make change for that Milky Way Bar, ask for donations.
b) Sell baked goods you and your friends make. Brownies, cookies, anything you can pick up and eat go a long way at a community function
