The Kids Helping Kids Teen Lounge

The Kids Helping Kids Teen Lounge at Children’s Specialized Hospital is now a reality! Funded by your generosity and hard work, our dreams have come true. By it’s very existence, a Teen Lounge represents everything we are about. Imagine! This place is a place where any kid (well or getting well) is able to go to sit and talk and feel better about their situation, or not talk and just hang out and be a kid… play video games, watch TV, do homework with a friend etc. And on special occasions, this place could be the hub of our social entrepreneurial endeavors, as well as a place for get-togethers, one-time gatherings etc.
Moving forward, our goal is to create more environments like the one at Children’s Specialized Hospital.
PRESS RELEASE
Kids Helping Kids funds Teen Lounge at new PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital
Kids Helping Kids, Inc. has announced it will fund the creation of a teen lounge at the new PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick. The room, equipped with games, movies, books, and state-of-the-art technology, will give teens living at the rehabilitation hospital the chance to relax with friends, family, and fellow patients.
Kids Helping Kids is an organization that knows how important it is for children with special needs to have support through their treatments. The new teen room will be named in honor of Kids Helping Kids’ founder, Mischa Drucker Zimmermann, who died from a brain tumor in February 2005. Mischa spent four months living at Children’s Specialized and often remembered how everyone helped to create a positive atmosphere for kids trying to cope with such difficult situations.
For Molly Drucker Zimmerman, Mischa’s sister and an active Kids Helping Kids volunteer, the donation has special meaning. “We are honored to keep Mischa’s dream alive by contributing to such a meaningful project,” says Molly. “The teen lounge will be a wonderful place for teens – of all abilities – to get together, making an easier transition for the kids returning to their communities.” Kids Helping Kids will focus its energy on fundraising for this project until the teen lounge is completed.
Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation is the only non-profit organization of its kind where every dollar donated helps a child with special needs. Children’s Specialized Hospital is the largest pediatric rehabilitation center in the nation, providing physical, occupational, psychological, and speech therapy, as well as programs in traumatic brain and spinal cord injury and special infant care, to over 14,000 children and young adults each year.
